WireFree Gas and Flame Detection Solution

Project Overview

Otis Instruments, Inc. provided a complete WireFree gas and flame detection solution for a fuel supplier in Texas. The installation was designed to improve safety monitoring across critical fuel handling operations while significantly reducing installation costs and infrastructure requirements.

By utilizing the OI-6000 and OI-5900 WireFree systems, the project eliminated the need for extensive hardwired conduit runs and trenching throughout the facility.

Gas Detection Monitoring

Gas detectors were strategically installed at:

  • Fuel pumps
  • Storage tanks

  • Tanker barge unloading locations.

The system was configured to detect gasoline vapors and octane compounds, specifically:

The OI-6000-CB2-LEL-9-X-O system provided continuous combustible gas monitoring in hazardous areas throughout the facility.

Flame Detection Integration

Flame detectors were installed at truck loading stations to provide rapid flame event detection during fuel transfer operations.

Each flame detector was paired with an OI-5900 WireFree transmitter. The OI-5900 converted the detector’s standard 4-20 mA output signal into a WireFree communication signal, allowing alarm and status data to be transmitted back to the central controller without the need for hardwired communication infrastructure.
